Energetic NLP

Since 2009, I have studied with Art Giser the creator of Energetic NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming). ENLP is a system of simple tools and techniques that help you to clear and balance your energy field.  It is a learned process of using transformational energy to facilitate mental, emotional and physical healing for yourself and others.  It helps with: developing your intuition, letting go of limiting programming and opening up your life to endless possibilities.  With simple to learn processes you can learn to maintain a deeper sense of peace and wellbeing in life.

What I learned from Art over the years has helped me to develop my skills as a healer. It has enabled me to be able to understand a person's energy, to assist them in aligning their soul, spirit, conscious and unconscious agendas, and to become the authentic, divine human they are meant to be!  To learn more about what ENLP is, go to: http://energeticnlp.com

Reiki

I first experienced Reiki in 2002 at Sunstone Healing Center for cancer patients and their families.  Reiki means "universal life-force energy."  Boy, did I need the force of the universe to get my life back on track after dealing with cancer and the treatments that go with it! Reiki was a great introduction to energy work that enabled me to explore further complimentary modalities.  I found Reiki was a unique, safe, powerfully gentle technique that I could use on myself to restore my depleted energy and promote a sense of well being and calm.  It is not a religion, dogma, doctrine or belief system.  It is an energy activation method that puts you in touch with a force of universal energy.  Research has shown its effectiveness in relieving anxiety, stress and pain: https://psychcentral.com/lib/reiki-healing-and-mental-health-what-the-research-shows/

In 2011, I completed my Reiki Master/Teacher level with Larry Secor in Sedona, Arizona.  In  2019, I received my Master/Teacher level with Kumari through the Reiki Alliance, an organization created to continue the lineage and legacy of Mrs. Takata,  the woman who brought Reiki to the United States from Japan.  Check out Kumari at https://www.kumarihealing.com

Healing Touch

Healing Touch is a relaxing, nurturing energy therapy.  In a session the client remains fully clothed and the treatment can be done sitting in a chair or lying on a massage table. Using gentle touch, the practitioner works with your energy field to balance your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being.  The work supports your body’s natural ability to heal.

The therapy was started in the nursing community by Janet Mentgen, RN, and is a continuing education program for nurses and other health care professionals.  It is endorsed by the American Holistic Nurses Association.  Numerous studies have been conducted to document the effectiveness of Healing Touch on reducing stress, calming anxiety, decreasing depression and pain, strengthening the immune system, enhancing recovery from surgery, deepening spiritual connection, supporting cancer care, and easing acute and chronic conditions.

In 2000, I had my first Healing Touch session.  I was referred by my medical team at the Integrative Medicine Clinic at the University of Arizona for autoimmune symptoms that had developed. They described it as being similar to acupuncture without the needles, which is a good basic description. But it is much more than just moving the energy along the meridian lines.  After years of receiving Healing Touch, I became a certified Healing Touch Practitioner in 2009 and started an energy-based clinic at the University of Arizona campus for students and faculty.  I then developed and managed a two-year research project on the effects of Healing Touch on Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans with post-traumatic stress (PTS). Results from 98 completed sessions showed improvements in the areas of depression, stress, anxiety, pain, insomnia and anger:  http://drc.arizona.edu/veterans-reintegration-education/promoting-wellness

Quotes from student veterans:

“It felt like the world was caving in on me, like hopeless, the Healing Touch relieved a weightiness and made me feel like everything was going to work out.”

“After my accident, I had constant pain even the medication didn’t seem to help.  The Healing Touch didn’t eliminate the pain but lowered it enough so I could do life.”

“I had lost myself, the person I was before I did my tour of duty.  I used to be confident and happy, I just wanted to get some of that back and this helped me get in touch with who I am and accepting that.”

“After the first session, it seemed like the anger just left me, I had a calmness and peace.  During the weeks, I did the Healing Touch, I never had an angry outburst, it really was amazing.”

Qigong and Tai Chi

After my second diagnosis of breast cancer in 2007, I started practicing Qigong.  In just 2 months of practice I began to feel a tingling in my hands, almost like they had been electrified.  Little did I know at the time, our hands put off an electromagnetic charge and the movement of the Qi, or energy, was beginning to cause an awareness of being able to feel energy.  I was super excited - I thought, maybe I can do this stuff! I enrolled in a Healing Touch Level 1 class in Encinitas, CA, with Scripps Memorial Hospital - a class full of nurses, doctors, and physical therapists. For me it was an affirmation that there must be some science to this "energy medicine" thing since even the medical community was learning it!  My skill level was very much beginner and most the time I did not feel much of anything. But with persistence, practice and a willingness to be open and teachable, I began to actually feel the edges of a person's energy field, sense a pain ridge, and feel hot and cold.  Thus began my education in energy medicine, all thanks to Qigong.

Qigong is a slow moving, meditative, breathing practice that enables one to shift their thoughts, emotions, pain, physical discomfort, bring in peace, joy and happiness.  It is simple to learn and simple to practice.  Its more active child is Tai Chi, with more movements that build upon one another based on martial arts.  It's comprised of blocking, releasing, and moving force and learning passive "go with the flow" movements.  It incorporates techniques that help you move and navigate life with its ups and downs. I began teaching Tai Chi when I realized during my research study with student veterans with post-traumatic stress, that they needed a means on their own to reach a state of wellbeing, with their energy balanced and flowing.  An hour of Tai Chi or Qigong practice can give similar results as an hour of Healing Touch or Reiki. The most common response I received after an hour healing session, was "I feel so peaceful and calm".   I have taught many veterans the techniques that enable them to reset their emotions and mental focus, stepping into a place of peaceful mindfulness.  "Give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach him to fish and he eats for life."
